With summer right around the corner, it’s a great time to explore how you can continue to make your mental health and care a priority throughout the summer. Here are some tips that can help you stay on track with your self care!
Take a walk outside
Spending time outdoors and walking can expose you to needed vitamins as well as boost serotonin. Taking a brief walk is a great way to break up a busy day, practice mindfulness, and get some exercise! Find a new walking or biking trail, stroll the beach and find some shells, or circle your own block a few times!
Try something new
Often times we get stuck in our familiar routine and summer can be a great time to intentionally shake things up. This could be anything from visiting a new place to trying new food or a new concert venue or genre of music – anything that requires a bit of stretching from your comfort zone!
Get enough sleep
All the excitement of summer can often lead to sleep being disrupted. It’s still important to get enough sleep regularly in order to help you keep your energy levels up and your body healthy. Try setting a bedtime reminder timer after dinner and try getting your night routine started 15 or 30 minutes early one night or week.
Schedule a Getaway
Scheduling a period of vacation and intentional rest doesn’t have to be in the form of an extravagant vacation, but select a period of time where you get to engage with things you enjoy and you take a break from the typical responsibilities. Try a staycation of getting out of town isn’t an option right now.
Connect with Others
Set aside some time to spend with important people in your life. Go out to lunch, watch a movie, or sit outside and catch up. Maybe start a book club with your neighbors or group of friends! Connection can help reset and be present.
Have a great summer!
